Super Bowl — Day three
February 5, 2011
On Saturday, despite the crazy cold weather, DirecTV still hosted their 5th annual Beach Bowl on the riverfront in Dallas. Thankfully, they’d brought their own sand, plus heated tents. We were lucky enough to get VIP passes for the event.
We took the local transit again as close as we could and started walking toward the riverfront. Along the way, we saw a pop-up store for Nike, which (of course) Tim had to stop at. We found out that in Texas, high schools would work with Nike to create custom uniforms. (Only in Texas.) They had some of their custom college work on display as examples. Since they also were doing on the spot sweatshirts, we both got some Bears memorabilia to honor the weekend. We placed our order and they started to work immediately; we arranged to pick them up on the way back after the football game.
When we got to the tent, it was crazy. Our VIP access meant that we were able to meet some of the players. I got a photo of Michael B. Jordan from Friday Night Lights and Tim pushed me to have my photo taken with Matt Bomer of White Collar (which proved to be more difficult than he thought as apparently only I know how to use our camera). The game was actually pretty good — Joe Mangiello (True Blood) and Josh Duhamel both had college football experience, and some former football greats like Warren Moon and Jesse Palmer (a.k.a. The Bachelor) rounded out the field. Afterwards, Maroon 5 did a small concert for the crowd. We didn’t stay too long, though; Fox Sports had planned a dinner that night and we had to get ready.
