Super Bowl — Day four, a.k.a. the Big Game
February 6, 2011
We woke up on Sunday like kids on Christmas, eager to get to Arlington and experience the Super Bowl first hand.
Security was about as tight as La Guardia. We had to walk through metal detectors and have our purses scanned. Thankfully, they’d gotten us to the area with plenty of time to spare, and since it only took about an hour to go through security, we still had plenty of time to grab a bite to eat and to explore the grounds.
I’ll admit, the lure of Cowboys Stadium was the biggest pull away from our annual party at home. I wanted to see the oversized jumbotron, the 100-foot tall glass doors, and the luxury boxes on the field up close. Jerry Jones didn’t disappoint; the stadium was definitely awe-inspiring. We also saw the seats that didn’t pass inspection for Jerry’s record-breaking attendance. I’m kind of glad no one sat there; they looked truly nosebleed worthy and very rickety, and I would NOT have wanted to climb the steps to the upper bleacher seats in those sections.
By the time the game began, the sound was overwhelming. Somehow, the crowd was still packed with loyal Steelers and Packers fans. We got to see an incredible game, and the tension made for an exciting night. (And despite what people saw on TV, we thought the halftime show was great.) Even better was our trip to the field after Green Bay won. Trampling through the confetti, Tim got to lay down on the field turf and we watched Aaron Rodgers and other players celebrate with their families. A once-in-a-lifetime experience, no doubt.
