Florida — Day three
February 23, 2011
Allison and Emily had a half day on Wednesday, so I caught up with work while they were at school, and then we all drove with neighbor Vicki to the beach in Clearwater, about 45 miles away.
The sun was shining for the entire drive to Clearwater, making us eager to arrive. Unfortunately, as soon as our flip-flops hit the sand, the clouds came out and the wind began. The girls didn’t care, stripping down to their swimsuits and playing in the sand. Emily talked me into coming down to the water, where she helped me look for seashells for my mother-in-law.
We enjoyed some snacks that we’d brought along, despite the best efforts of the seagulls to steal my Wheat Thins. The girls each made a sand castle/volcano, with moats and shell decorations. And when it was time to leave, Aunt Zilla destroyed the town with Vickizilla helping out.
We started driving back around 4 as Andi had choral practice that evening and Tim and Sean were taking the girls to a hockey game. The drive that had been so easy at noon was a disaster that night; we somehow were stuck in traffic the entire distance from Clearwater to their home in Tampa. Thankfully, the navigation pointed out a back road and we got the girls home just in time for Sean and Tim to get them to the rink before the game started, while Andi sped off to rehearsal. And I was perfectly happy to collapse on the couch after a long day.
