London — Day four
May 29, 2011
Rys joined us again on Sunday for some time at the Tate Modern and a walk through Whitehall.
We had a late breakfast and wandered along the banks of the Thames toward the Tate Modern, an old factory that is now an art museum. Rys met us there and seemed as enthused about the art as Tim (apparently, Surrealism just freaks him out). One good point, I suppose, is the vista from the balcony of the museum, a lovely view of St. Paul’s across the Thames.
We walked back along the river and grabbed a pint on one of several party barges parked on the bankside, then headed to Trafalgar Square. Upon hearing that I’d never seen 10 Downing Street, the home of the Prime Minister, Rys led us through Whitehall and the government buildings in that area, and we also walked along part of the route that William and Kate had traveled from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace on their wedding day the previous month.
After dinner at a local pub, we said farewell to another good friend and pointed ourselves in the direction of the hotel, taking the Mall from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace and then going through Green Park towards the Hyde Park arch and our hotel, just beyond.
