Puppy love

June 26, 2011

Mrs. Edith Wharton WhitestockingOn Sunday, we journeyed into Ohio to meet with a bulldog breeder, the real reason for our trip to Pittsburgh.

I’d been speaking to several breeders throughout the months of May and June to figure out where we might find a puppy to join our family. A bully judge from Pittsburgh ended up keeping all the puppies from the litter he had in early June, but had another to recommend in East Liverpool, OH, just across the Pennsylvania state line.

I had several conversations with Deb and both she and her puppies sounded great — the mom’s first litter, beautiful personalities, and the pics she’d sent made our heart melt. So we drove out to meet her and three of her girl puppies. All three were adorable, but the one that kept our attention was, surprisingly, a brindle (Tim usually prefers the solid coats). We asked them to hold her for us and told them her name would be Edith, after my favorite author, Edith Wharton. And we pledged to return in a couple of weeks to take Edie home for good.
