Winter storm, Day 1

After an icy Thursday (and cancelled school) the week before, we woke up on February 15 to snow and rolling power outages on a Sunday morning. We were warned the blackouts could continue for a couple of days as the power grid (which had not been required to winterize) couldn’t handle the extreme temperatures hitting Texas. Morning temperature outside: 7 degrees Fahrenheit.

Power was off more than it was on. We snuggled upstairs when we did have power, watching a movie while devices charged up. The house continued to get colder, and we cooked leftovers on the gas stove by flashlight, eating by the gas and wood-powered fire in our living room.
